Abstract

Title : Nanostructured liid-based carrier as delivery system for anticancer drug

Non-invasive oral route is of preference in chemotherapy for management of cancer. Nevertheless, this route of administration especially for drugs that are lipophilic, has the limitation of poor bioavailability. The use of surfactants or organic solvents to increase solubility of the drugs in water may cause adverse side effects to the patients that include neurotoxicity and cardiotoxicity. Other promising solution to overcome the low solubility and low bioavailability of the anticancer compounds is by the use of lipid based nano-drug delivery systems particularly solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) and nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs). Not only to increase the bioavailability of poorly soluble compounds, the systems are also able to provide protection for sensitive active compounds and to facilitate controlled release of drugs.
